Hi. I have been with EducateMaths since May 2014. I first started on ‘StudyLadder’, moved to ‘Maths Buddy’, tried IXL and then had a gap before coming back to EducateMaths this year. I am now in Year 9. EducateMaths has really helped me with my maths. I am still shy and reserved but, hey, I now give things a real go. Mr Cornelius is always asking me to ‘use what I know’ to solve maths problems.

I started my maths with EducateMaths when I was in Year 5. I was really struggling, always in the bottom maths groups through Primary School. I started with EducateMaths in May 2014 when my start maths age was assessed at just below 9 years. My age was then 10 years. In two years I progressed my Maths Age 2.5 years. Mr Cornelius has now moved me from the Maths Whizz programme to LiveWire Learning, which is the secondary programme. Maths Whizz was really good for me because I really learned the basics across all maths areas. I improved my basic facts and multiplication and division  recall. The LiveWire programme I am now on is really cool. I can practice the same topics I am studying at school. It is really helping me because I am now achieving Excellence..

Hi. I have been with EducateMaths for nearly 2 years now. In that time my Maths age has progressed nearly 3 years. I am now in Year 7. I am finding maths easier now and am prepared to give everything a go. I am achieving some Merits and Excellence’s at school. Mr Cornelius has moved me onto the Secondary programme such that I can work through exercises on the same topic I am studying at school. This helps me a lot to remember and recall my knowledge.

Hello. I have been working with EducateMaths just a little over 2 months. I am in year 2. I love the fun activities. I have really done well. My Mum tells me I have progressed to above my actual age now. She said I progressed 20 weeks in the last 9 weeks. That sounds pretty good to me.

Hi. I am in Year 8. I came to EducateMaths because I needed to brush up on some of my maths. There were just somethings I was not understanding and I guess these were things I did not get or maybe pick up at Primary School. I started in July 2016 and I have already progressed over half a year. I am going to be placed on the LiveWire Learning programme in Term 4. I understand I will then be working on activities which will tell me I have either Achieved, gained Merit or Excellence. I will still have to work on Maths Whizz because there are still some knowledge gaps I have. This is really cool because I am getting prepared for NCEA.

Hi. My name is Leo. I have been with EducateMaths 9 weeks. I am in Year 3. I love EducateMaths because I helped one of the brainy kids in class in maths the other day. I take my time in maths. It takes me a while to work things out but I get  here. Because I take so long I am in the bottom maths group at  school and that annoys me.

Hi. I’m Steve Cornelius

During my time as an educator with over 30+ years’ experience, I have been a classroom teacher, a Principal of three Schools and the Manager of Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour.

I work currently out of a Red Beach Primary School providing direct maths tutoring for students who need that extra learning to boost maths progress and confidence. I have been having a great deal of success in improving maths achievement levels for students. One of my independent on-line students (who does not see me directly), has progressed her maths achievement level nearly 3 years in 21 months and is now achieving above her Actual Age in Math.

I am able to support students through ‘live video feed’ when they have a particular ‘struggle/frustration’ in math. Parents have found this very useful preventing many family math conflicts.

If I was to be asked what my biggest takeaway would be when teaching/tutoring students it would be:

“My biggest thrill is to see the smile on a student’s face when they have succeeded at something they thought was impossible.”
